Lee Iskander is a doctoral candidate in Curriculum Studies at the University of British Columbia.

Lee's work explores how discourses of gender and sexuality shape identities in educational spaces. In particular, they consider how queer and trans K-12 students and teachers experience, adopt, refuse, and rework cultural narratives about gender, sexuality, and schooling. Lee's dissertation project is a critical participatory action research study that brought together seven trans and gender non-conforming preservice teachers from several programs in British Columbia and Ontario to investigate the implicit and explicit ways normative gender expectations appear in the discourses and practices of teacher education programs.

Broadly, Lee's research and teaching interests include gender and sexuality, teacher education, qualitative methods, and social studies education. In their spare time, Lee enjoys painting, baking, knitting, and hiking.
